Help over half term

Help is on hand in Gloucestershire for those who might be struggling over half term. A number of organisations are offering free meals or meals at a reduced cost.

County wide
Cotswolds
  • Huffkins (Stow on the Wold): Email the tea rooms directly (in strictest confidence) and they will help. The address is Charles@huffkins.com. This is also available at their tea rooms in Cheltenham, Burford, Witney and Stratford upon Avon.
  • Harry Hares, Cirencester: We are offering free ready prepared lunch boxes for collection. Just drop us a private message on Facebook or call us on 01285 640012, no questions asked.
  • Cotswold Clubhouse: Over October half term, Monday 26 October to Saturday 31 October, we will be supplying free packed lunches to children of families who need that extra help. If you need this assistance, please email hr@cotswoldclubhouse.co.uk (completely confidential) and we can organise lunches for you to collect.
  • The Golden Cross Inn Cirencester: We will be providing twenty hot meals plus drinks and fruit, free of charge each morning from 11am to noon. First come, first served basis starting Monday.

  • The Weighbridge Inn, Minchinhampton: If you live locally to the Weighbridge and you are struggling to feed your family this half term, or know someone that is, please message us via Facebook and we will provide a meal box including one of our kid’s pies to bake at home.
Cheltenham

  • Simpsons Fish and Chips: Children eat for free Between 12pm and 2pm on Tuesday and Friday.

  • YST: The Youth Support Team has partnered with the food charity, Wiggly Worm to provide hot, nutritious meals for young people and their families in the Cheltenham area that are affected by food poverty during half term. From 11:30am – 2pm each week day during the school holiday, we’ll be providing meals for collection from our centre in Whaddon – there maybe an opportunity for us to deliver to locally too if there is enough interest.   • 288 Bar and Wok: If anyone needs a free click and collect lunch for their children this half term week, please email me at pakwai@barandwok.com and we’ll quietly sort it for you.
  • Springbank Community Group: From Monday to Friday during half-term, we will be providing free packed lunches for all children (16 and under) who need one. Collection is from The Ron Smoth Pavillion in Springbank, between 11-1230 each day.To pre-order please text 07545 324225, letting us know name, number of packed meals (and which fillings you’d like) and any allergies we need to be aware of. Forest of Dean
  • FUSE: Come along for a session of Kickboxing with the fabulous Michelle from White Lotus Martial Arts. Have fun, get fit, learn a new skill and have some hot food on us all in a friendly and engaging environment. These sessions are completely free and are designed to get kids active whilst also giving them a hot meal. Open to children aged 3-16. Book online here.
  • Forest of Dean Salvation Army: If you run out of food or necessities, or times are just tough, please don’t let you or your kids go to sleep on an empty stomach.   • St James’ Church, Bream: We are offering free packed lunches for children at the church centre between 11am and 1pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively, delivery can be arranged. Please contact us bream children.yp@gmail.com by 6pm for next day delivery to collection.
  • Hips Social, Lydney: We have a community fridge which will be full of packed lunches (sandwiches and fruit) throughout the school holidays. Please just pop in!
  • Angels Fish and Chips, Cinderdford: All you need to do is come to the shop with your child/children between 12pm and 1.30pm Monday 26th October 2020 to Friday 30th October 2020. We will be offering Fishcake and Chips or Sausage and Chips with a carton of innocent smoothie or bottle of water. For children who have allergies we can offer an alternative please discuss this with us during your visit.

Gloucester
  • Roots Cafe: The cafe in Alvin Street, Gloucester is offering a sandwich, crisps, a cookie, a drink and fruit at a reduced cost.
  • Coopers Edge Community Centre: The Freezer of Love in the Cafe area is full of meals you can just pick up and take. It is Pay As You Feel, so if money is tight, the centre says please just enjoy the food! Drop them a message via Facebook for access to the freezer.
  • Fair Shares Gloucester: We provide cooked meals to vulnerable families and people of any age. Please give us a call on 01452 415900.
  • The Community Club Tuffley: We are asking for £1 donations to be left via our kindness board. It means we can offer children a hot meal for free during half term. There is also a store cupboard essentials available free of charge, please just contact us.

  • GL11 Community Hub: We will be offering free lunches to school children in Cam. Please see our Facebook page for the latest information.
  • Spring Villa Sports Bar & Cafe: From Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October all school aged children eat free between 11am – 2pm. However, due to Covid limitations, please can you book in your meal via Facebook message or phone us directly on 01453 548775.
  • Berkeley Tea Rooms: We are offering a free packed lunch during half term for pupil premium children.  This will include a sandwich, juice drink, cake, crisps and fruit or veg sticks.  Please place orders the day before, and collection is from our takeaway hatch in the Old White Hart Courtyard.  This needs to be before 11.30am each day (between 0830 and 0930 on Tuesday).  To order, please call 01453 810527 or contact us via Facebook.

  • Wotton Area Mutual Aid: If you live in Wotton or the surrounding area (from Wickwar to Tortworth and Hawkesbury to North Nibley – or anywhere in between), we will be delivering food boxes on Monday or Wednesday of half term. Please click here to fill in a form and order a box for your child.

  • Wickwar Coffee Shop: From Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October, the cafe will be providing free lunch packs for children. The packs will be a sandwich, packet of crisp, a piece of fruit and a drink. The packs can be collected and taken away without feeling the need to purchase anything.
